Speaking calendar

February 13th, 2010

Ethan Casey, author of Alive and Well in Pakistan (2004) and Overtaken By Events: A Pakistan Road Trip (2010), is a frequent public speaker on life and events in Pakistan. He visited the country first in 1995 and most recently in early 2009, and he lived for five months in 2003-04 in Lahore, where he taught journalism at Beaconhouse National University. He is currently writing a book about his many visits to Haiti dating back to 1982.

He has developed a slide show of photographs by his travel companion Pete Sabo covering stories and personalities encountered during their six-week February-April 2009 trip through India and Pakistan, accompanied by commentary on events during the action-packed five years since his previous stay in Pakistan. In his writing and speaking he emphasizes to American audiences the experiences and perspectives of Pakistanis, and the human dimension of his own experience of Pakistan. He also talks about Pakistanis’ experience of a major earthquake in October 2005 and their involvement in relief work and other responses to the even more horrific January 2010 quake in Haiti.

He speaks to religious congregations, house parties, civic organizations, and academic venues throughout North America. In winter and spring 2010 he will be speaking at the Air Force Academy, Cornell University and Town Hall Seattle, and helping host Todd Shea at the University of Washington. To book Ethan for your venue, be in touch.
