Books
You can support Ethan Casey’s independent reporting, publishing, and public speaking by purchasing one or more of his books by credit or debit card or PayPal, or by check (see below). Each of the three books costs US$25 including shipping:
- Alive and Well in Pakistan: A Human Journey in a Dangerous Time is a first-person, nonfiction narrative account of times spent traveling and living in Kashmir and Pakistan between 1994 and 2004. It has been acclaimed as “Magnificent … a travel book that travels through the mind” by Ahmed Rashid, author of Taliban and Descent Into Chaos, as “Intelligent and compelling” by Pakistani novelist Mohsin Hamid, author of The Reluctant Fundamentalist and Moth Smoke, as “A search for common humanity” by The Daily Telegraph, and as “Wonderful … a model of travel writing” by Haitian-American novelist Edwidge Danticat.
- Overtaken By Events: A Pakistan Road Trip, an account of a six-week overland journey from Mumbai, India to Karachi, Pakistan between February and April 2009, documents the human dimension of events in and involving Pakistan since 2004. The purpose of both books is to report on recent events as they affect ordinary Pakistanis and to humanize Pakistan and Pakistanis for a global and particularly American readership. It will be published in March 2010, with 32 pages of photographs by Seattle-based photographer Pete Sabo. It can be pre-ordered.
- The earthquake in Haiti is forcing me to write a long-delayed book (as yet untitled) about my longstanding relationship to Haiti, the episodes in recent history that I’ve witnessed in that country since 1982, and the significance to all of us of Haitian history and experience. I visited Haiti most recently in 2004 and plan to travel there again in 2010. The book will also include conversations with eyewitnesses and early responders to the earthquake, including (but certainly not limited to) Pakistani-American physicians and Todd Shea of CDRS Pakistan. As with Overtaken By Events, pre-purchasing the Haiti book will defray the travel and other costs I will incur in bringing it to publication.
You can also purchase all three books by mail. Please make US$ or C$ checks payable to Ethan Casey or “Alive and Well in Pakistan” and mail to P.O. Box 85315, Seattle, WA 98145-1315 USA.

Like you there is another great American, Greg Mortenson, a mountaineer who went to Pakistan to climb K2 mountain, was caught in a blizzard, he stumbled down to a small village, poor folks saved his life. He promised to build a school. Today
he has built over 130 schools in remote Pakistan and Afghanistan. His website is: http://www.threecupsoftea.com
